 안녕하세요! [겜덕 연구소]를 운영하고 있는 조기자입니다. 이번에도 레트로 게임 전문가이신 검떠 님을 모셨습니다. 이번 시간에는 브라운관 화면이 좌우로 90도씩 회전하는 엄청난 기믹을 제작한 이상한 트로이님의 작품을 살펴보도록 하겠습니다.

 조기자 : 안녕하세요 검떠님, 반갑습니다. 오늘은 오랜만에 전국에서 손꼽히는 게임기 제작 장인 중 한 분을 찾아뵙게 되었습니다. 예전에도 한 번 소개해드린 적 있지만 한동안 뜸했었죠. 바로 '이상한 트로이'님 입니다.
 검떠: 아하 이번에 부산 지스타 2024에 내려가서 뵈었던 이상한 트로이님이군요. 저는 이번에 내려가지 못했지만 엄청난 작품이 완성되었다는 거죠?
 조기자: 그렇습니다. 이상한 트로이님이 새로 만드신 엄청난 작품이 있다고 해서 찾아뵈었는데요, 역시나 명불 허전이었습니다. 자동 화면 회전 기믹을 추가한 CRT 브라운관 게임기라 "대단하다!!" 라는 생각 밖에 들지 않았습니다. 이번에 제대로 한 번 살펴보시죠~!

 조기자: 트로이님은 부경대 경성대 쪽에 계시죠. 집에 마당이 있어서 평소에도 다양한 작품들을 만들어 오셨습니다. 
 특히 나무를 자유자재로 다루시고 항상 새로운 아이디어로 새로운 작품을 만들기 위해 도전하는 분이죠. 
 저도 한 10년전 쯤일까요? 잠마 연장선을 만들어달라고 의뢰를 하면서 처음 알게 되었는데요, 지금까지도 인사드리면서 한 번씩 부산 내려갈때 마다 친목을 다지고 있습니다.

 조기자: 보시면 아시겠지만 컴퓨터로 따로 설계를 해서 진행하시는 게 아니라, 전통 수작업으로 작업을 하고 계십니다. 굉장히 성격이 꼼꼼한 분이셔서 제품 설계를 하면서 한 번도 실패해본 적이 없다고 하네요. 
 이번에 설계하신 회전 기믹은 웬만한 지식이 아니면 될 수 없는 것인데에도 머리 속으로 구상을 하시고 자와 연필만으로 척척 작업을 진행하셨다고 하시더군요.

 조기자: 보셨습니까? CRT 모니터를 어떻게 돌리나 봤더니, 이렇게 틀을 만들어서 돌리는 방식이었습니다. 모니터를 안착시킨 모습을 보니 우어~ 벌써 다 만드셨네? 정도의 생각이 들었죠.
 또 하나 놀라운 점은, 저 14인치 브라운관이 신품이었다는 겁니다. 예전에 부산 상가를 다니시면서 신품 브라운관을 10개 가까이 챙겨두셨다고 하는데, 새로 작품을 하나씩 만들면서 다 소진되었고 이 브라운관이 마지막 신품 브라운관이라고 하시네요.
 저는 화면을 봤지만, 확실히 짱짱합니다. 화질 너무 좋았네요.

 조기자: 이 부분에서 깜짝 놀랐습니다. 자동 회전 기믹을 이렇게 아날로그로 설계를 해서 만들 수 있는 건가? 라고요. 
 보통은 PC로 만들어서 시뮬레이션 돌려보고 오차 수정하고 해야하는데, 딱 머리 속에서 구상하고 바로 오차없이 구현하셨다는 걸 보고 정말 장난 아니시구나.. 했습니다. 한두 번 만들어본 게 아니기 때문에 가능한 것이겠지 라고 생각할 뿐이죠. 
 특히 이번에는 전동기를 동원해서 자동 회전 축을 구현하실 줄은 몰랐습니다. LCD도 아니고 CRT인데요

 조기자: 이렇게 보니까 어떠신가요? 벌써 다 만들어진 것 같지 않습니까? 
 회전 기믹 테스트를 마치고 이렇게 브라운관 틀을 얹어놓으니 난도 높은 작업은 얼추 끝났다고 할 수 있겠죠. 
 다 만들었다~ 이런 느낌을 받을 수 있는 작업물이죠. 
 그리고 이후에 캐비넷에서 중요한 조작부도 작업이 들어갔습니다.

 조기자: 이렇게 스틱부를 만들어놓으니 어떻습니까? 게임기로 완벽한 모습을 갖추지 않았습니까?
 스틱을 한두 개 만드신 게 아니어서 척척척이죠. 
 산와 스틱과 버튼으로 배열에 맞춰 깔끔하게 들어간 모습입니다. 그리고 위에 스위치들이 여러개 있는데요, 가운데 스위치가 바로 화면을 회전시키는 장치입니다. 나머지는 음향 조절, 스타트, 코인 같은 버튼들이고요.
 그리고 기기 뒷면을 볼까요?

 그리고 아래쪽에 전원 멀티탭과 스피커가 위치한 것을 알 수 있습니다. 
 다년간 게임기를 개발해오신 만큼 최적화된 위치에 최적화해서 배치했다는 걸 알 수 있죠. 이 모든 것이 노하우 아니겠습니까.

 조기자: 제가 또 하나 놀랐던 점은 이상한 트로이님의 깔끔한 마무리입니다.
 저도 간단한 것들을 만들긴 하지만, 이렇게 깔끔하게 작업 마무리하지 못하거든요 .
 조이스틱이나 내부 배선이 엄청나게 깔끔합니다. 이야 이정도면 경지에 올랐다~ 싶을 정도로요.

 스틱과 버튼이 아주 정갈하게 작업되어 있는 걸 보실 수 있을 겁니다. 버튼에 가이드를 덧대어서 정리해주고
 그라운드와 내부 배선을 깔끔하게 이어서 오랫동안 게임을 즐겨도 문제가 없도록 작업이 된 모습입니다. 
 이러한 불빛이나 배선은 위쪽까지도 그대로 연결되어 있는데요, 사진을 보시죠.
