 [TV리포트=한수지 기자] 록밴드 세이수미의 멤버 최수미가 3년 투병 끝 별이 된 원년멤버 故세민을 회상하며 눈물을 보였다. 
 2일 방송된 EBS1 음악 프로그램 'EBS 스페이스 공감'에는 인디음악 30주년 특별기획 파이오니어 시리즈로 록밴드 세이수미가 출연했다.
 세이수미는 2012년 겨울 결성됐으며, 수미와 병규가 이끌어온 밴드에 성완, 재영이 합류하며 지금의 모습으로 완성됐다. 이들의 음악에는 부산의 정서가 담겨있다. 
 수미는 "1집 앨범 타이틀을 '우리 이제 정신 차렸어'라고 지었다. 저희가 그 당시 맥주에 많이 빠져있었다"라고 말했다. 이어 앨범 커버에 있는 부산 남청동 폐수영장에 대해 "이거야말로 부산인데, 폐허에서 오는 느낌이 좋았다. 요즘에는 철저하게 막아 논 상태인데, 해외 팬분들이 폐수영장에서 인증샷을 보내기도 했다"라고 전했다. 그러면서 "지금은 함부로 들어가면 안 된다"라고 덧붙였다. 
 2집 타이틀곡 '올드 타운'에 대해서는 "대학 졸업하고 밴드 시작하고 얼마 안되서 친구들이 졸업하고 떠난 공허한 마음을 담았다"라고 밝혔다.
 '올드타운'은 2019년 한국대중음악상에서 최우수 모던록 음반과 노래 부문 수상을 하기도 했다. 당시 선정의 변에서는 '올드 타운'에 대해 서프 록과 쟁글 팝의 유산에서 한국 인디록의 가장 밝은 미래를 캐낸 세이수미의 대표곡이라고 평했다. 
 뿐만 아니라 미국 음악 웹진 '스테레오검'과 영국 음악 웹진 '라우더 댄 워', 미국 음악 매체 '빌보드' 등에서도 세이수미의 음악을 주목했다. 수미는 "자고 있는 동안 기사가 쌓여있더라. 그걸 아침마다 보는 게 즐거웠다"라고 소감을 밝혔다.
 개인 시간을 합주실이자 작업실에서 거의 보내고 있다는 병규는 "저는 작곡을 담당하고 있고, 수미가 가사를 적어 곡이 완성이 되면 합주를 통해 곡을 다듬는다"라고 소개했다.

 병규는 "제가 작사를 할 줄 모르는 반쪽자리 작곡가다 보니까 가사에서 큰 흐름이라던지 이야기가 완성된다고 본다. 가사는 제가 못해서 우러러보는 것인지는 모르겠지만 가사 적는 거는 예술의 영역이라고 본다"라며 수미를 치켜올렸다. 
 수미는 평소 자주 산책을 즐기며 영감을 얻는다고 밝혔다. 그는 "걷는 거를 좋아해서 생각을 정리하고 걸으면서 음악을 많이 듣는다. 걸으면서 아이디어를 생각하고 휴대폰에 메모를 남겨놓기도 한다. 저희 가사에서 자연 관련된 단어가 많이 나온다"라고 전했다. 
 그는 영어 가사를 많이 쓰는 이유에 대해 "처음에 한글 가사 쓰는 게 너무 어렵더라. 그 디테일과 뉘앙스를 잘 알고 있으니끼. 그래서 영어로 썼는데 괜찮은 거 같더라"라고 고백했다.
 한글로 가사를 쓴 노래 '꿈에'에 대해서는 "병규 오빠가 작곡한 곡을 들었을 때 이건 한글 가사가 잘 어울릴 거 같다는 느낌이 올 때가 있다. '꿈에 꿈 이어지네' 그 가사가 나와서 '이 노래는 우리말로 해보자'라고 결심했다"라고 설명했다. 
 세이수미에게 2016년는 아픔이 있는 해였다. 당시 2집 작업 중이던 원년멤버 드러머 세민이 예기치 못한 사고로 병원에 입원했고, 2019년 가을 그는 결국 하늘의 별이 됐다.
 수미는 "그렇게까지 될 줄 몰랐다. 3년 정도 누워있었다. 가족분들이 고생이 많으셨다. 사실 오빠가 누워있는 동안 제일 바쁘게 보냈다. 그래서 자주 보지도 못했다"라고 말하며 눈물을 보였다. 당시 세이수미는 세민을 위해 모금을 했고 판매 수익금은 모두 세민의 병원비로 사용됐다고.
 수미는 "2집 만들 때 세민 오빠 생각을 많이 했다"라며 "우리가 있었던 곳으로 다시 돌아와달라는 내용을 담았다"라며 세민을 떠올렸다.
